Dopo una breve presentazione della personalità scientifica e umana di Vincenzo Recchia, come atto di omaggio nei confronti di Gregorio Magno, lo scrittore che ha sempre costituito il fulcro dell’attività di ricerca del nostro studioso, l’autore di questo contributo ha esaminato la valenza semantica del sostantivo “angaria”: questo termine, che all’origine indicava i balzelli cui venivano sottoposti i proprietari dei terreni attraversati dal “cursus publicus”, in Gregorio tende progressivamente ad assumere un valore traslato, molto vicino al nostro “angherie".

After a brief presentation of the scientific and human personality of Vincenzo Recchia, as an act of homage towards Gregory the Great, the writer who has always been at the core of research activities of our scholar, the Author of this paper has examined the semantic value of the noun “angaria”: this term, that originally meant the taxes to which the owners of land crossed by the “cursus publicus” were subjected, in Gregory progressively tends to take a translated value, very close to ours “angherie”.
