Lo studio, nato originariamente come recensione, oltre a presentare come Biagio Amata ha affrontato e condotto a termine l’opera di Arnobio di Sicca, offre una panoramica sul latino cristiano, ancora non del tutto valorizzato nei suoi aspetti linguistici e semantici. Il mondo accademico e, ancor più, quello della scuola ancora succube di un anacronistico e asfittico retaggio, continua a considerare il latino cristiano un sottoprodotto del mondo antico, ignorando a quali risultati sono giunti i pensatori, che di quel latino si sono serviti. Tra questi Arnobio, insieme con Tertulliano e Cipriano, detiene un posto di primo piano, perché la sua opera conduce il lettore nel vivo delle lotte, che caratterizzavano l’epoca immediatamente successiva alla persecuzione di Diocleziano. Biagio Amata, che oggi è considerato il più grande specialista di Arnobio, con i suoi studi e soprattutto con la snella e maneggevole traduzione, porta alla conoscenza degli studiosi un’opera di incalcolabile valore storico e archeologico e offre abbondante materiale per ulteriori studi e ricerche.

This work, which originated from a book review, besides showing how Biagio Amata faced and accomplished the work of Arnobius of Sicca, also presents us with a wide survey of Christian Latin, whose linguistic and semantic aspects have still not been fully appreciated. The academic world and schools are still under the influence of an anachronistic and suffocating prejudice which considers Christian Latin as an inferior product of the ancient world since it takes no notice of the results which these authors achieved. Among these writers we find Arnobius who, together with Tertullian and Cyprian, occupies a prominent place among Christian authors because his work introduces the reader into the midst of the struggle which was typical of the period immediately after the persecution of Diocletian. Biagio Amata, who today is considered to be the greatest contemporary expert on Arnobius, with this study and its concise and fluent translation, makes scholars acquainted with a work of inestimable historical and archeological value, which offers copious material for further study and researc
