Questo articolo vuole esaminare un importante brano biblico come si presenta nell’esegesi patristica di San Beda il Venerabile nel suo commento del vangelo di Luca. Vale la pena notare che questo è l’unico commento del Magnificat eseguito secondo ogni versetto da un Padre della Chiesa. Per mezzo del metodo allegorico spirituale l’autore cerca i vari sensi che il testo biblico può rendere e li interpreta con acribia alla luce del contesto pastorale e culturale della sua epoca.

This article wishes to examine an important biblical passage as it appears in the patristic exegesis of St. Bede the Venerable in his commentary on the Gospel of Luke. It is worth noticing that it is the only complete verse by verse comment of the Magnificat written by a Father of the Church. By means of the allegorical spiritual method the author searches for the various senses which the biblical text may yield and scrupulously interprets them in the light of the pastoral and cultural context of his day.
