Della TILC (“Traduzione italiana in lingua corrente”) i due autori sono stati testimoni diretti sin dagli inizi (prima traduttori, poi revisori). Qui in tre sezioni distinte essi ricordano vari aspetti. a) Indicano quali accordi generali allora sono stati presi tra la Chiesa cattolica e le altre Chiese o comunità cristiane. b) Offrono un esame o una diagnosi delle caratteristiche di questa traduzione, soprattutto dei criteri linguistici, di scienza del tradurre, di procedura, di programma missionario-pastorale. In questa parte centrale – chiaramente la parte più ampia del saggio – essi indicano anche alcuni esempi concreti. c) Infine considerano i risvolti pastorali della TILC, valutando alcuni dei rilievi critici che sono stati avanzati in passato e tuttora sono a volte avanzati.

The two authors were personally involved, first as translators then as revisors in the TILC (Traduzione italiana in Lingua corrente). Here they narrate the various aspects of this experience in three separate sections. a) They point out the general agreements which were reached between the Catholic Church and the other churches or Christian communities. b) They examine and critically judge the characteristics of this translation, particularly of its linguistic criteria, science translation, procedure and pastoral missionary programme. In this main part, which is obviously the most extensive part of the work, they provide some concrete examples. c) Lastly they take into consideration the pastoral effects of the TILC and evaluate some criticisms which have been raised both recently and in the past.
