Il presente contributo analizza le implicazioni della Veritatis gaudium per la formazione pastorale dei candidati al sacerdozio. Dopo aver fornito un breve riassunto della Costituzione apostolica, l’articolo mostra come il documento accentua il contributo delle Università e Facoltà cattoliche alla conversione pastorale di tutta la Chiesa auspicata nella Evangelii gaudium, e afferma il ruolo decisivo degli studi teologici nella preparazione per la missione ecclesiale. In seguito, l’articolo delinea i diversi significati che il termine “pastorale” assume nel documento di Papa Francesco ed evidenzia come la Gaudium et spes sia il suo cuore pulsante. Infine, l’ultima parte del contributo concentra la sua attenzione sul discernimento pastorale e sul modo in cui, in maniera unitaria e integrale, la formazione pastorale dei candidati al sacerdozio dovrebbe tenere conto dei tre importanti aspetti del ministero del pastore: sapere, fare ed essere.

This article presents the implications of Veritatis gaudium for the pastoral formation of candidates for the priesthood. After giving a quick summary of the above document, it proceeds to highlight how the Apostolic Constitution appraises the role of the Catholic Universities and Faculties in contributing to the pastoral conversion of the entire Church as envisaged in Evangelii gaudium, and affirms the decisive role of theological studies in preparing people for the evangelizing mission. Next, the paper sketches the multifaceted meaning of the term “pastoral” in Pope Francis’text and highlights how Gaudium et spes resounds in the new document. Lastly, the last part of the writing focuses its attention on pastoral discernment and on how in a unified and in an integral way the pastoral formation of the candidates to priesthood should take into consideration the three important aspects of the ministry of the pastor: knowing, doing and being.
