Questo saggio indaga la storia della redazione del decreto Christus Dominus sull’ufficio pastorale dei vescovi nella Chiesa e il suo insegnamento in relazione all’oggetto e ai mezzi della catechesi, così come ai metodi, strumenti e agenti o operatori. Infatti, la dottrina del Concilio Vaticano II in Christus Dominus sulla catechesi è stata la conseguenza del rinnovamento della mentalità che è maturata gradualmente prima del Concilio e durante il Concilio. Emilio Alberich scrive che il Concilio ha segnato «La chiusura ufficiale dell’ “età del catechismo” e l’inizio di un rinnovo approfondito delle coordinate essenziali della nuova catechesi». Tuttavia il Concilio non ha semplicemente scartato il catechismo e i mezzi catechistici che hanno rappresentato l’insegnamento, la comprensione e la memorizzazione della dottrina. Piuttosto ha soltanto riscoperto la natura essenziale della catechesi e ha posto l’uso del catechismo nell’ambito di un nuovo processo di formazione cristiana in cui la dottrina viene appresa come una forza efficace grazie alla quale lo Spirito cristiano viene trasmesso nella realtà della vita concreta.

This essay is an investigation into the redaction history of the Vatican II decree Christus Dominus concerning the pastoral office of bishops in the Church and its teachings on the object and means of catechesis, as well as its method, tools and agents. In fact, the doctrine of Vatican II on catechesis was the consequence of the renewal of a mindset that gradually matured before the Council and at the Council. E. Alberich writes that the Council marked «the official closing of the “age of the catechism” and the beginning of an in-depth renewal of the essential coordinates of catechesis». However, the Council did not simply discard the catechism and the catechetical means it represents: the teaching and learning of doctrine. Rather, it only rediscovered the essential nature of catechesis and placed the use of the catechism – its learning, understanding and memorization – within the framework of a whole new process of Christian formation wherein doctrine is learned as an effective force through which the Christian spirit is infused into the realities of concrete life
