L’origine della pastorale giovanile, sia come azione specifica della comunità cristiana sia come riflessione scientifica, è molto recente. Di conseguenza, non è per niente strano che esistano ancora concezioni molto diverse e addirittura fortemente contrapposte. Bisogna però riconoscere che ci sono alcuni elementi di base che qualsiasi pastorale giovanile dovrebbe sempre rispettare, pena il rischio di snaturarla. Ecco alcuni di questi elementi fondamentali: concretizzare in ogni progetto la differenza tra catechesi con giovani e pastorale giovanile; assumere la prassi come “luogo teologico”; vincolare strettamente il “principio incarnazione” con la costruzione dell’identità; pensare tutti i processi a partire dalla “mutua implicazione” tra educazione e fede, Vangelo e vita, umanizzazione ed evangelizzazione

The origin of youth ministry, both as a specific action of the Christian community and as a scientific reflection, is very recent. Consequently, it is not at all strange that there are still very different and even strongly opposing views. In any case, it must be recognized that there are some basic elements that any youth ministry must always respect, otherwise the risk of denaturing it. Here are some of these fundamental elements: concretize in every project the difference between catechesis with young people and youth ministry; assume the praxis as a “theological place”; tightly linking the “incarnation principle” with the construction of identity; think about all the projects based on the “mutual implication” between education and faith, Gospel and life, humanization and evangelization.
