L’intento della XV Assemblea Generale Ordinaria del Sinodo dei Vescovi è stato chiaramente presentato nel suo Documento preparatorio I giovani, la fede e il discernimento vocazionale: «La Chiesa ha deciso di interrogarsi su come accompagnare i giovani a riconoscere e accogliere la chiamata all’amore e alla vita in pienezza, e anche di chiedere ai giovani stessi di aiutarla a identificare le modalità oggi più efficaci per annunciare la Buona Notizia». Nel suo contributo “Giovani e scelte nella vita cristiana: Alcune considerazioni canoniche”, l’autore (J. Pudumai Doss) vuole rispondere alla domanda: nella vigente legislazione ecclesiastica si possono trovare elementi validi sulla «chiamata all’amore e alla vita in pienezza» dei giovani e sul loro contributo all’evangelizzazione? Partendo da una decina di canoni del Codice del Diritto Canonico che si riferiscono ai giovani (cann. 234 §2, 235 §1, 236 1°, 528 §1, 776, 777 5°, 795, 799, 813, 819, 1063 1°, 1072), si cerca di cogliere alcune implicazioni giuridiche che sorgono dai diritti e obblighi dei giovani nella Chiesa, raggruppandole sotto questi ambiti: Giovani e l’età legale; giovani e scelta di vita cristiana (in particolare dei sacramenti dell’iniziazione cristiana); giovani e scelte di “stato di vita” (della vocazione matrimoniale, presbiterale e consacrata); giovani ed evangelizzazione.

The intent of the XV General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops was expressed clearly in its Preparatory Document Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment: «The Church has decided to ask herself about how to accompany the young people to recognise and accept the call to love and to life in abundance, and also to ask the young people themselves to help her identify the most effective ways to announce the Good News today». In the article “Giovani e scelte nella vita cristiana: Alcune considerazioni canoniche (Youth and Choices in the Christian Life: Some Canonical Considerations)”, the author (J. Pudumai Doss) wishes to answer the following question: In the actual ecclesiastical legislation, can one find some essential traits of the “call to love and to life in abundance” of the young people and their contribution towards evangelization? Starting with a few canons of the Code of Canon Law that relate to young people (cann. 234 §2, 235 §1, 236 1°, 528 §1, 776, 777 5°, 795, 799, 813, 819, 1063 1°, 1072), some legal implications arising from the rights and obligations of the young people in the Church are gathered around these areas: Youth and their Legal Age; Youth and their Choice of Christian Life (especially the Sacraments of Christian Initiation); Youth and their Choice of “State of Life” (such as the Vocation to Marriage, to Priestly Life and Consecrated Life); Youth and Evangelization.
