Mettere insieme la sacra Scrittura e l’esperienza educativa di don Bosco è come andare alla radice profonda del suo essere e del suo agire. Per far conoscere ai giovani la sacra Scrittura, don Bosco ha profuso un notevole sforzo e usato in maniera creativa i mezzi di cui poteva disporre al suo tempo: catechismo, storia sacra, predicazione e alcuni mezzi di comunicazione sociale. Per lui, oltre al suo valore religioso e dogmatico, la Bibbia contiene una saggezza umana e una morale che servono come “appoggio” per l’educazione. Contiene anche una folla di immagini, di parabole, di sogni e visioni che possono essere utilizzati per comunicare un messaggio educativo. In conclusione si evidenziano tre convinzioni del santo dei giovani: l’Antico Testamento è fondamentale per l’educazione della gioventù; Gesù ama i giovani con un amore di predilezione; e la Chiesa è il luogo privilegiato di educazione con la sacra Scrittura.

The combination of the Scriptures and the educational experience of don Bosco goes, as it were, to the very root of his being and actions. don Bosco made a great effort to acquaint young people with the Bible and used the means which were available at the time: catechism, history of the Church, preaching, and other kinds of social communication. For him the Bible, in addition to its religious and dogmatic value, contains a human wisdom and morality which form the necessary basis for education. It also contains a multitude of imagery, parables, dreams and visions that may be used to communicate an educational message. In conclusion three convictions of the saint of young people are underlined: the Old Testament is fundamental for the education of the young, Jesus loves them with a preferential affection, and the Church is the privileged place of education by means of the Scriptures.
