L’obiettivo di questo articolo è quello di collocare Paolo nella storia del cristianesimo e di constatare le resistenze che nascono da entrambe le parti di fronte a qualsiasi tentativo d’integrazione o dissoluzione dell’uno nell’altro. Solo superando questo ‘scandalo’, potremo arrivare a comprendere l’irrinunciabile eredità che abbiamo, noi cristiani, nell’opera e nel pensiero dell’apostolo. La necessità di aprirsi alla sua persona e di aderire alla sua interpretazione del cristianesimo s’impone dal momento che, pur dipendendo da un contesto storico a noi estraneo, continuano a costituire per i cristiani d’oggi garanzia e norma delle loro interpretazioni, fonte e ispirazione di nuove comprensioni dell’esistenza cristiana.

The article seeks to find a place, and the role, for the apostle Paul in the earliest Christianity, where he belongs to, and takes into account the difficulties that arise from either party when one is to be integrated by or absorb into the other. Only by overcoming this venture, one would be able to understand the indispensable heritage that we, Christians, have got in Paul’s work and thought. We should welcome his person and meet his peculiar vision of Christianity because, though both of them remain very distant from us, they still are norm and rule for a valid knowledge of the Christian existence and stimulus and inspiration for any new interpretation.
