È possibile pregare con i Salmi imprecatori? L’eventuale disagio psicologico che si può provare viene superato se essi sono interpretati secondo l’ “esegesi spirituale” praticata dai Padri della Chiesa, raccomandata dal recente sinodo sulla “Parola di Dio nella vita e nella missione della Chiesa”. Alla luce del principio dell’unità dei Testamenti e della tipologia che coglie in eventi e personaggi dell’Antica Alleanza una prefigurazione di eventi e personaggi della Nuova Alleanza, nell’esegesi patristica, il Mistero della Passione di Cristo diventa il contenuto dei salmi imprecatori. Con la loro attitudine ad interpretare simbolicamente figure ed oggetti, avvalendosi del principio che un versetto della Scrittura getta luce su altri versetti, i Padri hanno scoperto persino in quelle invettive un sorprendente annuncio della misericordia di Dio che chiama alla penitenza e alla conversione.
