Questo secondo saggio presenta a larghi tratti la situazione in Europa delle varie forme di cristianesimo (ecclesiastico, pubblico e privato), delle altre Chiese e Comunità cristiane, dell’ebraismo e dell’islam, e delle altre religioni; evidenzia due sfide maggiori alla fede cristiana: un diffuso soggettivismo individualista e libertario e un preoccupante consumismo edonista; descrive il dibattito intorno alla radici cristiane dell’Europa e gli orientamenti generali proposti specialmente da parte del magistero dei vescovi e di Giovanni Paolo II.

The second article gives a broad outline of the situation of the various forms of Christianity in Europe ( ecclesiastical, public and private) and of the other churches and Christian communities, from Judaism to Islam, and other religions. It underlines the greatest challenge to Christian faith: widespread individualistic subjectivism and a disturbing libertarian and hedonistic use of consumer goods. It describes the debate about the Christian roots of Europe and the general guidelines proposed above all by the magisterium of the bishops and John Paul II.
