L’articolo ricostruisce una panoramica sintetica del significato del Concilio Vaticano II, guardandolo attraverso le categorie di “evento” e “processo”. Se “lo spirito e l’andamento” dell’assemblea conciliare confermarono un nuovo clima e sensibilità ecclesiale che implicava anche una nuova forma di fare teologia, tuttavia l’immagine risultante non è priva di dubbi e punti interrogativi. Assieme ai limiti epistemologici e “pratici”, il suo carattere pastorale – novità conciliare fondamentale, particolarmente legata alla “Gaudium et spes” – continua navigando tra una comprensione della pastorale come sensibilità dogmatica di base o come semplice adattamento pratico della dottrina.

The article re-constructs a broad summing up of the meaning the Second Vatican Council, by viewing under the categories of “event” and “process”. If “the spirit and the proceedings” of the Council’s assembly confirmed a new kind of atmosphere and awareness that implied a new theological approach, nevertheless the resulting image is not without its doubts and question marks. Together with its epistemological and “practical” limits, its pastoral nature, the fundamental novelty of the Council, which is particularly related to “Gaudium et Spes”, continues on its way by navigating between the understanding of pastoral care as being “basic dogmatic sensitivity” or simply as “practical adaptation of doctrine”.
