Era da aspettare che il presente Direttorio su pietà popolare e liturgia riservasse uno spazio notevole alla figura della madre del Signore nella pietà cristiana, come di fatto è avvenuto. Questo contributo, dopo aver registrato la dimensione mariana nel documento della Congregazione per il Culto, indica il senso della figura di Maria per promuovere la visione armonica e articolata tra la liturgia e la pietà popolare, che il Direttorio ha come scopo. Maria porta con sé il potenziale di una relazionalità trinitaria, soteriologica, antropologica ed escatologica, per cui la vera devozione mariana non solo evita distorsioni e squilibri, ma giova ad una migliore partecipazione liturgica e alla crescita del senso cristiano nelle forme della pietà popolare.

It was expected that the recent Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy would allot a considerable space to the Mother of the Lord in Christian piety. In fact, it does. After having presented the Marian dimension in the document of the Congregation of Divine Worship, this article points out the significance of the figure of Mary in promoting the harmonious and articulated vision between the liturgy and popular piety, which is the goal of the Directory. Mary embodies in her the trinitarian, soteriological, anthropological and eschatological relationship. The point is that in this way the true Marian devotion not only avoids distortion and imbalance, but also helps towards a better participation in the liturgy and a growth in the Christian meaning of the forms of popular piety.
