Alcuni risultati ottenuti da un approccio statistico di analisi testuale e di text mining applicati utilizzando gli strumenti di TaLTaC2 a due gruppi distinti di documenti di Giovanni Paolo II: il primo composto da venti discorsi proclamati durante le giornate mondiali della gioventù (1985-2005), il secondo è un campione di più di duecento discorsi scelti del pontefice, quando si rivolge ai giovani nel corso dell’intero periodo del suo pontificato (1978-2005). Il linguaggio che emerge dai testi rivela e documenta caratteristiche e toni confidenziali dell’originalità pastorale. D’altra parte, l’analisi dei testi mostra che i giovani possono essere visti come una categoria sociologica “privilegiata” da Giovanni Paolo II. Nella quantità di documenti estratti, espressioni particolari proprie del “linguaggio peculiare” – a volte nascoste – sembrano confermare un particolare stile di Giovanni Paolo II.

This paper presents some results achieved by a textual and statistical text mining applied to distinct groups of documents: the first composed of twenty speeches proclaimed by John Paul II during the world youth days (1985-2005), the second is a sample of more than two hundred chosen speeches, addressing young people over the entire period of his pontificate (1978-2005). The language reveals the characteristics and confidential tones and pastoral originality evident especially when confronted with the text types that according to canon law are traditionally recognized (as the official pontifical documents). On the other hand, analysis of texts shows that young people can be seen as a sociological category of global partners “privileged” by John Paul II. The main techniques of statistical analysis of the text as the analysis of repeated segments or the extraction of information with regular expressions through the software TaLTaC2 proved to be very beneficial and helpful in understanding particular expressions sometimes hidden and all these analytic tools seem to confirm a specific style of John Paul II.
