The understanding of the relationship between nature and grace is one of the key theological themes, and emerging solutions seem to use different conceptions of nature, which has not always been realized. This paper will present Aquinas’ account of natural events to show that the operation of grace does not cause an ontological modification of nature, but rather it resembles and imitates nature. This means overcoming the purely extrinsic view of these relations. Understanding grace in terms of “habitus” and “motus” brings its theological implications, which will be presented with reference to Aquinas’ biblical commentaries.
